Growing up, I thought everyone knew what Clamato juice was and that Caesar cocktails were equally popular and available. A Caesar is basically a Bloody Marry made with a mixer made from tomato juice and clam broth. It sounds disgusting, but they taste amazing, especially at a brunch.
So of course Cloe makes them for the guests on their whale watching tour in Wanting a Family Man.
And of course she also has to learn how to make one first. Here’s the recipe
- 1 lime wedge
- 1 tablespoon celery salt, or as needed
- ice cubes, as needed
- 1 fluid ounce vodka
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
- 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste
- 8 fluid ounces tomato and clam juice cocktail (such as Clamato®)
- 1 celery stick

Snippet:
What’s clamato?” A fruit she’d never heard of like huckleberry?
“Cocktail mixer made from clams and tomatoes.”
“Wait. Actual clams? Cooked, I hope.” Cloe was trying to imagine choking down a chewy clam as part of a cocktail.
“Just the clam juice. Have you never milked a clam? Trystan.” Cheryl looked past her with an exasperated frown. “Why didn’t Sarah train Cloe on milking clams?”
“I don’t know. She has the hands for it. Look at her delicate fingers.” His gaze skimmed downward.
Cloe curled her hands into self-conscious fists, but she also knew when her leg was being pulled. She played along.
“She didn’t tell me how to get the clams into the milking barn, either. Oh, I know. Seahorses, right?”
“She’s onto us.” Cheryl wrinkled her nose.
“Seems like it. Some of the guests are heading back,” Trystan added. “Wayne and I will put out the tables if you want to start getting the food ready.”

Wanting a Family Man (Raven's Cove Book 3)
He prefers his own company. She longs for family…
Cloe Vance had one goal when she learned she’d lost her sister: reach her infant niece. Though unable to assume custody—Cloe is broke, homeless and unemployed—she’s determined to ensure Storm is loved and cared for, even if that means working with her celebrity crush, Trystan Fraser, who doesn’t trust her.
The isolation of Raven’s Cove inspired the wilderness survival series that made Trystan famous. He refused to return until the unexpected death of his father forces him to help his estranged half-brothers refurbish the resort, hoping to secure a future for their infant half-sister. When Storm’s aunt arrives, for once the brothers are aligned…and scared. Does she want Storm or money?
Trystan’s tasked with discovering her motives by hiring Cloe to help with the week-long whale watching excursions. Their chemistry sizzles, yet Trystan resists behaving like his philandering father. In the fall, he’s returning to his globetrotting career. Cloe is a temptation he doesn’t need, but can she teach him that home is where the heart is?

I have never tried Clamato, although I've heard of it. My digestion has gotten cranky the last four or so years, and I try to stay away from anything hot pepperish. I also have issues with pineapples and coffee (both caf and non-caf) and it's too bad becuse I love pineapples. I did chuckle at the thought of sea horses rounding clams up for milking.
ReplyDeleteNope, never heard of Clamato juice or a Caesar cocktail. But then again, I've never had a Bloody Mary either, so I'm not really the target audience. Good info to have, though.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great drink!
ReplyDeleteYummy cocktail and the book sounds good
ReplyDeleteInteresting drink. Thanks so much!
