Writing Swept Away by the Venetian Millionaire brought to mind many memories of my trip to Venice years ago. A lot of those memories involve delicious pasta meals! There’s a pasta dish I frequently like to make at home. So cheesy and yummy! It’s a traditional baked ziti recipe with a a couple touches of my own.
1 pound ground chicken or ground turkey, cooked
8 ounces dry ziti pasta, cooked
1 jar tomato pasta sauce
1/2 cup water
1 tblspn fresh basil, chopped
1 tblspn fresh garlic, minced
1/2 cup fresh Parmesan cheese, shredded
1 cup crumbled feta cheese
1/2 cup olive oil
2 cups mozzarella cheese, divided
1 large ripe tomato, sliced
Cook pasta according to package directions. Fully cook ground meat. In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients, add salt and pepper as desired. Add 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella to mixture then place into a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle remaining shredded mozzarella on top. Place tomato slices decoratively on top. Sprinkle with dry oregano. Bake at 400F until fully heated, about 20 to 30 mins, may vary.
